CONSULTING ENGINEER'S ESTIMATE OF TIME REQUIRED FOR RESURFACING PROJECT:
I include this letter from Lamb & Barger to show how the delay of doing this project by the superintendent so as to not affect the election made everything be done in a hurry. Recall that "I" was the only one opposed to Astroturf, and I really doubt that I had that much influence on the general public, but that was not a risk the superintendent was going to take! What a shame that we got an inferior product (they didn't have time to put down the original padding), and the football team at Mayde Creek High School had to play on the visitor's field because of the way this was handled.
In no way was this firm (Lamb & Barger) at fault for anything. They were trying to do the best they could in the time that was left by advising the Board. I still have the file on the bids that were made. Recall that all these documents are Open Records.

Dear Mr. Leach:
Attached is a construction schedule for the project. The schedule represents the minimum number of actual calendar days to accomplish the work. The schedule includes rain days but does not give credit for weekends or holidays. Based on this schedule, it will require a minimum of 83 calendar days to complete the project.
Harrop Construction estimated 65 calendar days to do their work. Brown and Root estimated 50 calendar days. The schedule allows only 26 days. If there is any leeway in the schedule it is possibly 18 days of turf installation and striping. Balsam completed Alief Stadium in 15 days and Mercer Stadium in 9 days. Two striping crews were used at Mercer. Both were ready for football, but lacked the soccer striping and end zone lettering which was done after the initial games were over.
If 18 days can be transferred to general construction this could province a maximum time of 44 days to complete all of the pavement work.
As you an see the project is on an extremely tight schedule. It is recommended that tentative plans be made to move the initial football games to alternate sites.
Please call if you have any questions regarding this construction schedule.
Sincerely,
Joe P. Lamb, P. E.
