DEFINITION OF A PUSH POLL:

A push poll is a marketing technique that may be used in a political campaign.

The person or organization conducting the poll may try to influence or change the view of the voters being called using the ruse of conducting a poll.

During the conversation with the pollster, the person being called may be asked leading questions that will perhaps elicit a negative reply or response regarding the targeted issue or candidate.  Such a reply may cause the person being polled to have second thoughts about his opinions that were held prior to the push poll call. Such a response would seem to be the reason for the push poll.

Usually no effort is made to utilize the information that is gathered in a serious manner, which may thus render the call merely a telemarketer's ploy.

Negative campaigning can be another term for a push poll.

Katy ISD conducted a PUSH POLL in 2006 for the 2006 first bond.  The supporting Katy Kids PAC conducted another one for the second 2006 bond.  Katy ISD has recently (May 2014) conducted another PUSH POLL for the 2014 proposed bond referendum. Such an effort is just another example of the lengths and expense to which the Superintendent will go to get this next bond passed. Passing this bond would appear to be critical to his employment future!
