Tim, it's time for the parents at SLHS and CRHS to stop patting themselves on the back for being "so much better" than the other KISD schools and start comparing themselves to the top schools in other districts.
I won't use TAKS to compare as that is a measure of minimum standards. Any school with the demographics of SLHS and CRHS should be appalled if they aren't Exemplary. There is no excuse. Instead, let's apply high standards - National Merit Scholar Semifinalists for the Class of 2010.
CRHS had 17 (good), SLHS had 7 (not so good, especially considering the number of students). THS, which is much smaller, had 10.
Moving out to other districts....
CFISD - Cy-Woods had 11
Clear Lake - Clear Lake High had 22
Klein - Klein High had 11
Conroe - Woodlands and College Park each had 11
FBISD - Dulles had 12, Austin had 13, and Clements had a whopping 29
SBISD - Memorial had 15
HISD - Bellaire had an amazing 37
Private - St. John's (only 539 high school students) had 43!
I'm not sure of the enrollment at all of these schools, but I looked at a handful and SLHS is larger by at least 100 students.
So I ask, is SLHS really all that grand? If I were a parent there I would be asking myself, "What are they doing WRONG?
If you want to look at other schools in Texas, here is the link. http://api.ning.com/files/kH25nzdqYdquvvstpgcalvgOZo6LTT1pJju4UpIZPG8SuF
