THE ISSUE OF USING ASTROTURF COMES UP AGAIN IN 2012:

The subject of Astroturf has come up again in this year's (2012) election.  Candidate Cynthia Blackman made the statement that the Astroturf needed watering.  She probably got that from me, and it is true.

"Lost My Mind" on www.InstantNewsKaty.com  wisely did some research and came up with this link:   http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/afdeveloping/footballturf/01/13/56/11/maintenanceofanartificialturffield.pdf which verifies the "need to water" Astroturf.

I got into this argument in the first place when Frailey shoved the six high school practice fields' Astroturfing (for 5.2 million dollars) down our throats at a Work Study meeting with no prior announcement of his intent.  No coach that anyone could find wanted Astroturfed practice fields. PBK wanted the plastic grass as they are now in the business, it seems.

I drove by Taylor High School today, where the football team was doing spring training, I guess, and were they on the Astroturf?  No, they were squenched over on the grass on the other side!  The turf grass gets too hot to use during the heat of the day.

Someone else who "watches" the Astroturfed field at Taylor High School wonders why they spent so much to put down soft grass and then almost the next year, came around and dug it up and put in Astroturf!!!  This watcher also noticed that the District spends lots of money watering down the Astroturf every day, all during the football season beginning in August because the surface is too hot for the players to practice on!  Duh. Nice move, Mr. Frailey!
