LUDICROUS LEFT JUST AS EXTREMIST AS THE RADICAL RIGHT:

Ludicrous Left just as 'extremist' as the Radical Right

Sept. 17, 1997

The scariest thing to me about the Ludicrous Left faction which is currently in charge of the country and the media, is the fact they issue dire warnings about the "dangerous tactics" being used by those of us on the "Radical Right" — even while they're using the same tactics.

In Austin on Sept. 26-28, there will be a conference grandly entitled "Defeating the Religious Right at Home: Grassroots Activism for State and Religious Leaders." The headliners include Carole Shields, president of the ill-named People for the American Way, and Cecile Richards (that's Ann's daughter), president of the equally-ill-named Texas Freedom Network. The conference will be held at — surprise! — the Texas State Teachers Association union building.

Seminars scheduled for the conference will tell participating socialists how to counter the "Religious Right" on such issues as state and local school-board elections, the right's "attack on civil rights," how to dig up dirt on the right's financial backers, and how to effectively use "free media" to get their message to the public.

Having done a little Internet snooping on these guys, I've managed to cull a few of their basic stances on "How to Fight the Right:"

• Label anyone who opposes a socialist agenda as an "extremist;"

• Point out contradictions in the Right's message, especially on civil liberties, as confirmation those messages come from "extremists;"

• Moan and groan about "how much money" the Right has to fight its battles, how that money comes from "private foundations," and how that money must therefore be shady;

• The media, especially large daily newspapers and television, is friendly to the cause and gives free publicity to any idiot: use it;

• Use the terms "Protect the Children!" and "Protect Civil Rights!" whenever possible, and people will automatically listen — especially people who are too lazy to do the investigating to find out what the heck you're talking about.

Most interesting about this conference is its emphasis on adding the interdenominational Religious Left to the socialist movement. This sounds like a bad religious pun, but I'm afraid our well-meaning ministers have made a pact with the Devil.

I hate to break this to the y'all, but the Left is every bit as "extremist" as they claim we are.

Granted, there are some folks involved in the "Religious Right" whose message comes across as hateful. Funny, but when leftist hate groups like the Afro-centrists spread their venom, it's classified as "protest."

Students aren't allowed to pray in school, but they do observe "a moment of silence" during Earth Week? Who says we don't have religion in schools — we've merely changed the deity!

The Left hopes to protect civil liberties by denying those civil liberties (such as free speech) to anyone who opposes them. It happened in July at the State Board of Education meeting, when dozens of people were denied their right to petition government for redress of grievances by a left-leaning Board which voted to cut off discussion.

Democracy at work? Hardly.

Want to talk about "foundation funding," eh? Okay. Who's funding "education reform?" How about large private foundations based on the East Coast — Pew Charitable Trusts, the Carnegie Foundation, Annenberg Foundation and others — run by old-money social liberals (and that's a nice term for them) . How about large "non-profit" foundations like the National Center for Education and the Economy, which are funded by taxpayer dollars "donated" by state education agencies (without the knowledge of an elected State Board of Education), as happened in Texas?

The Ludicrous Left wants to "protect the children" by forcing them, against their will and without the consent of their parents, to conform to the social and political standards of the Left. Watch what happens in Texas as the "Healthy Kids Corporation" begins providing in-school medical and mental-health services. We've already seen what happened in Pennsylvania.

One area we can't fight the Left on, though, is ease of access to the major media; most of the major news media are controlled by organizations who help finance the socialist cause in the name of "charitable contributions" and "helping education."

Perhaps the saddest part of this is the fact that those on the Ludicrous Left really do have their hearts in the right places. All they want to do is make the world a better place to live in, and simply can't get it through their thick little heads that while socialism is a neat idea, it has never worked, does not work, and will never work.
