PLANO CITY COUNCIL AWARDS POGUE CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT:

The story in June that I received the most reader feedback about dealt with the June 9 decision by the Plano City Council to award Pogue Construction a contract to serve as the construction manager at-risk for the new $5.5 million building project at Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve. I don’t think most people would have batted an eye at the contract, a year ago, since it seems you see Pogue signs at construction sites throughout the county. However, as the contractor in charge of building the now-closed Allen’s Eagle Stadium, readers found it odd that the city awarded Pogue the contract.

City officials have said they stand behind Pogue 100 percent and have faith the job will be carried out smoothly. An engineer’s report released by Allen ISD placed most of the blame for the stadium problems at the feet of the designer, PBK Architects, and not on Pogue, but it is easy to see why Plano taxpayers would be concerned about where their money is going when the concrete at a $60 million stadium begins to crack and crumble less than two years after it opened.
