BOND COMMITTEE MEMBERS IN 2013:

It would be interesting to know how many people were invited to be on this committee. [Since writing this piece, I have discovered that 100+ people were invited to serve on this committee (John Eberlan statement in the Houston Chronicle October 30, 2013.)] Forty-three people are listed below as that is the number I received in an open records request. [I'm guessing 57 of them didn't accept the invitation because they are wise to the District's penchant for using people on committees to rubber stamp their plans!]

Eleven of them only showed up for one meeting.  No minutes were taken of the meetings! (They didn't want to have to share the agenda.) Some of these people have no listing on the Internet, in a local phone book, on ZabaSearch or People Smart.  Makes me wonder if they really exist! It is my opinion that this committee was convened quite some time AFTER the school district had begun to put out in press releases a great deal of information about what was "needed" in the way of bond projects.  Only after I made pointed remarks about the fact that they had forgotten to convene a committee did they do so!

Citizens should realize that a bond committee is taking over the responsibility that voters gave to elected Board members--i.e., to make decisions themselves for all of us. (Our school board is a "representative" government.  We elect each individual to "represent" each of us in the electorate.  They are not a "Team of Eight" nor are they supposed to delegate their authority to others.  It's mindless what they are doing, and no one, besides me, is out there calling their hand on what they are doing!) The committee then becomes subject to open records and open meetings laws.  The meetings of this committee should have been posted as required.  No way for me to know if that happened. It is also interesting to me that sometimes some of the board members do not even attend the committee meetings!  I guess they think they are too good to do so!
