Commentary on Passage of the Bond:

The big losers in the November 5th bond election weren't those of us who tried to defeat it; the students who will continue to be cheated out of a true liberal arts academic education are the big losers.  Money will be spent on everything else BUT the academic education of the students.  Buildings and stadia aren't supposed to be the focus of public schools, but in Katy ISD, because of an inept superintendent, a school board that does not provide oversight, and an electorate that is easily fooled, that's what we have.  How sad!

By the way, on the KISD web site the superintendent "thanked" the people who helped to pass the bond--all109 of them. (Since most of them were KISD employees, one has to wonder when they were "helping"!) There were about 15 of us on the opposition side who had no money and not many ways to get out our side of the issue--the media with the exception of CoveringKaty.com and georgescottreports.com, was all left-leaning and pro-bond. So for our side to get 45% of the vote is pretty extraordinary!  Go here to see the list of KISD "helpers":  http://www.katyisd.org/Documents/Superintendent%20Messages/11_04_14-FINAL-Thank%20you%20hyperlink%20for%20Bond%20Message.pdf

Let's hope the superintendent realizes he needs to be a bit introspective concerning his recent behavior and actions when over 45% of the people who live in the District think he and his bond need to go. If just 5% of the voters vote the other way, his bond loses! And just for the record, I think the bond failed because most of the people voting in this general election pulled the straight ticket lever for the Republican Party (and thank goodness that they voted for the Republicans) and hit CAST BALLOT and walked out of the polling place never realizing until later that they had missed the bond referendum hidden at the bottom of the ballot.  State legislators need to rethink forcing elections to be combined.  Spending tax dollars on the voting process to make certain it is fair is never a waste of money!
