MISMANAGEMENT OF KATY ISD'S PORTABLE BUILDINGS:

The Katy school district has 314 portable buildings.  They cost $95,000 each.  That means KISD has $29,830,000.00 invested in portable buildings.

These buildings are supposed to be used to hold student classrooms in schools where the regular building is overcrowded.  For example WoodCreek Junior High has 17 portable buildings providing 34 classrooms that hold thirty students each. Obviously someone in charge didn't have the management capability to plan ahead so that such an overcrowding situation had to occur! Either a new junior high was needed a year or two ago, or else the Superintendent needed to rezone and fill up the empty junior highs. The latter suggestion would be cheaper by several million dollars!

Leaving this particular junior high overflowing is, in my opinion, just an attempt, to make parents of those students falsely believe that they need more schools so they will vote for the proposed $758,000,000.00+ bond. Can anyone say "being held hostage"?

However, as it happens, KISD has many of these portables just sitting around all over the District not being used for anything except storage rooms or Parent Centers.  When did we as tax payers start funding "Parent Centers"? ...or storage rooms that cost $95,000 a pop?

Here is a list of the portable buildings claimed by the school district at the end of June, 2014:

The Katy school district would like for you to believe that ALL of these portables are being used.  They are not.  In fact we think these portables aren't very portable at all as once placed they tend to stay put and become storage units or parent (PTA,PTO and other parent organization) offices.  If you know of portables that are empty or being used for anything other than a classroom, please notify me as soon as you can.
