COMMENTARY ON ERIC DUHON:

Eric Duhon had been a member of the KISD school board for 12 years, since 1999. He finally resigned in 2011.

His service, in my opinion, was lackluster and boring.  He was supported initially because he seemed to have promise as someone who would stand up for students and their parents.  Even A. D. Muller, who lived in the same neighborhood as Duhon,  helped to get him elected.

However, his voting record became marked by his inability to follow through with how he apparently believed.  At board meetings he would question matters, object to things, and then vote with the Team of Eight or abstain. It was very bizarre to watch.

I have been greatly disappointed in Mr. Duhon's service.  We all wonder why he was called to this duty.  Perhaps all those curriculum directors all over Texas with "Duhon" for a last name have something to do with it????????

Notable activities during Mr. Duhon's term of office:

A rezoning effort in 2000 - Eric Duhon and fellow board member Robert  Shaw both showed (as revealed by a Houston Chronicle reporter)  that it's all right to rezone everyone else's children, but they'll vote against such moves when it was a matter in their own neighborhoods! Mr. Duhon lived in Pin Oak, Mr. Shaw lived in Katyland.  The proposed move would have affected the athletic program at Katy Junior High, and in my opinion that's why they voted against it.

Mr. Duhon is also noted for his election day hijinks.  He, along with others of similar ilk, used the "We'll tell the folks at the east end of the school district that our opponents are going to close Wolfe Elementary School right before the election and turn them out to vote for us!" That ploy worked many times on the hapless voters at the east end who appeared to be easily led around by the nose.

Mr. Duhon waited until the last minute to resign hoping that his cousin, John Eberlan, would succeed him.  Unfortunately for Mr. Eberlan (and Mr. Duhon), Terry Huckaby and A. J. Durrani made the run off instead of Mr. Eberlan.  Mr. Huckaby eventually won the election in the run-off. Mr. Duhon literally was signing up for a spot on the ballot at the same minute he was issuing press releases saying he was resigning!  It was sort of what we had all come to expect from this board member!
