Qualifying ended yesterday for the upcoming Katy ISD Board of Trustees election with one incumbent going unopposed while the board's longest-serving trustee drew an opponent.

Henry Dibrell, a 42-year-old minister who resides in the Heritage Square subdivision, is challenging long-time board member Joe Adams, 57, for the Position 1 slot.

Position 2 incumbent Rebecca Fox, 52, did not draw an opponent.

Dibrell has worked in nonprofit management for more than 15 years.  He and his wife Delia have lived in Katy ISD for four years, and the couple has four children.

A member of Believers World Outreach Church, Dibrell has spearheaded such outreach projects as Holiday of Hope and X-Ray Day at the Bay.  He also serves on the board of directors of LifeHouse, a residential center for young women dealing with unplanned pregnancies.

He is a graduate of Northwestern State University.

Adams has served on the Katy ISD board since 1989 and is the board's current president.  During his tenure, Adams has also served as vice president, secretary, treasurer and sergeant at arms. He also currently serves as a director on the Gulf Coast Area Association of School Boards.

Adams has worked in the oil and gas industry for thirty years.

He holds a B. B. A. in marketing from Texas A&M University and serves on the board of directors of the Southern Federal Credit Union, the North Houston Association and is a deacon at Kingsland Baptist Church.

Adams and his wife Donna have been married for 35 years and have two grown children and one grandchild.

During his 2007 re-election campaign, Adams drew a $500 fine from the Texas Ethics Commission for violations of the Texas Election Code.  According to the TEC, Adams failed to disclose political contributions he received during the race.

In its formal findings, the Ethics Commission found Adams had failed to properly disclose political contributions and expenditures on three occasions, failed to properly disclose total political contributions and expenditures, failed to properly report total political contributions maintained as of the last day of the reporting period, and failed to properly disclose loans.

Fox, who lists her occupation as a motivational speaker, has served on the Katy ISD Board of Trustees since 2004 in the capacities of treasurer and secretary.

Fox is a graduate of the class of 2007 Leadership TASB (Texas Association of School Boards) and has earned the distinction of 'Master Trustee' from that organization. She is also a member of the TASB Legislative Advocacy Network.

Fox holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Consumer and Family Science from Southeastern Louisiana University.

Married 23 years, she and her husband have two children.

Katy ISD trustees serve three-year terms and have no term limits.

The election is May 8.

[In the May 8th election, Joe Adams received 1,217 votes and Henry Dibrell received 527 votes.]
