Frailey Delivers Katy ISD State of the District Address

Katy ISD Superintendent Alton Frailey spoke last week to a room of more than 100 Katy community members, dignitaries and staff members during his annual State of the District Address.

Providing a snapshot of key issues and district growth, Frailey encouraged attendees to focus on preparing the Katy ISD students for future success through a collective commitment with the community.

During the address, Frailey shared some of the district’s major educational accomplishments from the past year, such as top scores being earned on standardized tests by Katy ISD students and a Katy ISD elementary school being named a National Blue Ribbon School.

“When we have a state of the district, it is to update the community on where we have been and the current reality of the district,” Frailey said. “However, I also like to share the big wins as they are something in which the entire community can be proud.”

This year, Frailey stressed the importance of creating a collective commitment with the community to support all Katy ISD students.

“Through a shared vision and collective commitment with the Katy community, we can preserve the safe learning environment and guide Katy ISD students to success,” Frailey said.

A student from the Superintendent’s Student Round Table and an active parent volunteer also participated in the 2012 Address and shared stories of what Katy ISD means to them.

“The opportunities that have come my way have been extraordinarily beneficial in my development, not only as a student, but as a young man,” said John Liner, Cinco Ranch High School senior. “Katy ISD schools encourage involvement and success from their students, and I’ve seen the great benefits of that.”

Kym Pratt, parent volunteer and graduate of Taylor High School added that she could have raised her family anywhere, but she chose to come back to Katy, emphasizing Frailey’s statement that Katy ISD is a “destination district.”

A video and slideshow of the address is available on the school district website.

[Funny how the District took down this link since it was so "nice."]

Get your popcorn a cold drink and settle in for the video. I did not learn much I would call new, but I do appreciate the district putting the event on line and look forward to more of the same. Not the speech so much, but the willingness to share with us.

In an Open Records Request which was answered yesterday, I asked for the list of those invited as well as an indication of those who came to hear Mr. Frailey.

I wanted to know who the “community” is that our superintendent addressed.

The District invited 484 people. Of those invited, 73 came (not 100). Of those, 42 were KISD employees. That left 31 who were PTA presidents, Foundation members, school board members, et cetera.

It appears to have been like an Obama State of the Union Address being delivered only to NPR listeners.

I’m guessing that the 411 people (KISD employees, PTA presidents and so on) that really didn’t give a hoot what Mr. Frailey had to say will be ordered to come next year for the annual Center of Truth Fiasco.

OH yes, I see that District “Fuzzy Math” manipulation game being played again. Free breakfast wasn’t enough to entice that many to the table so they could be used and manipulated as District pawns in a very dangerous game that is being played. It isn’t really free if there are some strings attached.

These must be the select “community organizers” that were invited because they could be counted on to go and “reeducate” the rest of us with their District spoon fed knowledge and wisdom.

It all looked and sounded very “Kommunist” to me. Did I hear the word “collective” being used, too?? I thought this was an INDEPENDENT School District?

I’m with the 411 people who weren’t there. I don’t give a hoot about what Mr. Frailey has to say. I don’t believe in him. I don’t trust him. Have no confidence in him and believe he and 3 others on our School Board need to GO. TODAY. How’s that for some honest “Center of Truth?”
