Western Gas Plans Similar to Titanic Sinking

Dear Editor,

I am writing this letter to let you know that I am still against Western Gas building their facility in our community.  I am also asking for your continued help in preventing its construction.  When Western first contacted me, they didn't tell me that a pumping facility would be next door to me and some of my neighbors.  No where in their lease did they mention the chance of a decrease in property values, the possibility of an underground leak, or the possibility of air or ground pollution.  No where is mentioned ground vibrations.  I refused to accept their offer, and I did not sign a lease, nor will I now.

Recently, I received a certified letter with a check and a lease agreement contract in it.  After Western received the return card from the certified letter, one of their representatives called me to see what I was going to do.  I told him that I still did not want to sign a lease and that they will just have to do what they can do and the community will have to do what it can do.  After this call, I received another letter which seemed to show much concern for me.  They were letting me know that I am about to miss out on getting anything from them and all but assured me that they could begin construction soon.  But their psychology is not working on me.  I am not concerned about what is likely to happen, but what can happen.  Some one was foolish enough to say that a ship called the Titanic would not sink, but it did, on it's first voyage.

Western Gas says they are seeking voluntary agreements, but in the same sentence threaten that if we don't volunteer, they will take what they want anyway.  Some way to get volunteers, if you ask me.

You can be assured that these people are not all interested in our welfare.  When they have obtained all of the authority they need, neither those who signed, nor those who didn't will be shown any concern.
