LETTER TO SENATOR CHRIS HARRIS REGARDING SKIP MENO:

                                                                                                                   Katy, TX 77450

                                                                                             January 8, 1996

Senator Chris Harris

P.O. Box 12068

Austin, TX 78711

Dear Senator Harris:

While filing the other day, I ran across a March 26, 1991 article from the Houston Chronicle that described the 29-1 vote to confirm recently departed education commissioner Skip Meno.  You apparently were the lone dissenter in that decision.

I am writing at this late date to say thank you for your wisdom and for standing up to do the right thing.  As an elected official on a small pond, I know how difficult being "odd man out" is sometimes.  Mr. Meno did more all by himself to harm the education of Texas' children than anyone can imagine.  He came here with a pre-determined agenda that is now firmly ensconced in our state.  He was stabbing at our children as he rode out of town.

I just wanted you to know that there is someone who appreciates what you did.

Sincerely,

Mary McGarr

(Mrs. Gary L.)
