LOOK AT KATY ISD'S CURRICULUM "BELIEFS":

I have to say that I was pretty stunned by the posting of these "curriculum beliefs" on the KATY ISD web site.

Please note the intellectual ability that is reflected here!  Please note the meaningless word choices. Please note the lack of pronoun reference!  Please note the misspelled words and/or typos. Please note the grandiose expectations! Please note the concepts that are revealed!

The following are the beliefs by subject field.  It is reasonable to assume the person in charge of each subject wrote the subject passage or at least has taken responsibility for them.

MATH BELIEFS:

Mathematics curriculum and instruction provides all students access to a mathematically rich curriculum with rigorous, high-quality instruction that provides opportunities to learn important mathematical concepts and procedures with understanding while empowering students to be confident, resourceful and persistent when solving problems. [Huh?]

Secondary Math Coordinator:  Debbie Trahan

SCIENCE BELIEFS:

Science curriculum and instruction provides all students an authentic understanding of scientific knowledge and processes, and teaches students to be critical thinkers.  The science curriculum drives instruction where learning is achieved through the use of inquiry, the acquisition of content, experimentation, reflection, and sue [sic] of current technology. This type of learning is vital so that students will be able to apply what they know to new situations, enabling them to make informed decisions in the future.

Secondary Science Curriculum Coordinator:  Cathy Harter

SOCIAL STUDIES BELIEFS:

Social Studies curriculum and instruction provides students the knowledge and skills necessary to become life-long learners and informed and responsible citizens of the United States and the world.  This is accomplished through the teaching of broad concepts, social studies skills, and learning strategies.

Secondary Social Studies Curriculum Coordinator:  Sally Farr

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS/READING BELIEFS:

Language Arts curriculum and instruction provides all students with the foundation necessary to become successful in all academic areas by implementing balanced, integrated literacy which includes reading, writing, speaking, and listening.  These critical skills and the strategies that support them directly contribute to student success in a rapidly changing world.

Secondary ELA Curriculum Coordinator:  Amanda Palmer

Ah, responsible, informed citizens of the "world."  And all taught in a Katy public school! Imagine!

I would settle for all of the students being able to read!
