Officials with a Colorado company proposing to construct an injection well gas storage facility just south of Katy have announced plans for a second town meeting in the Katy area.

A spokesman for Western Gas Resources, Inc., of Denver said Wednesday the company is set to host a meeting Dec. 11 at The Club at Falcon Point.

William W. Koch, manager of special projects for Western Gas, said the open meeting is aimed at addressing concerns voiced by local residents over water and air quality, as well as public safety, in the area proposed for the underground natural gas reservoir.

"We realize it may not be convenient for the homeowners to travel to Austin for the hearings," Koch said.  "We also know that all issues of interest to the citizenry may not be fully addressed by the Texas Railroad Commission at those hearings.

"This meeting in Katy on Dec. 11 will give residents a change [sic] to be heard and to hear answers to the questions that concern them most," Koch said.

The company is expected to detail its plans concerning water safety, noise and vibration abatement, landscaping and safety,  Koch said, and to demonstrate proposals for safeguarding area property values.

Katy Mayor Skip Conner, who said Friday the city is likely to send a representative to the meeting, applauded efforts by the company to address the concerns of area residents.

Katy Mayor Skip Conner, who said Friday the city is likely to send a representative to the meeting, applauded efforts by the company to address the concerns of area residents.

"I feel certain a representative from the city will be there, Conner said.  "I think it's great [Western Gas Resources] respect the citizens in the area enough to hold another public forum.  The more information you have, the easier it is to make an informed decision."

The company has requested permits to construct injection wells in the approximate center of an 82-acre site at Roesner and Green Busch Roads to store methane gas in a natural reservoir, known as the Hillenbrenner [sic] site, beneath the lad surfacing, repressurizing the underground reservoir to 3,000 pounds per square inch (psi), company officials said.

The open meeting is to be led by For Bend County Judge Roy Cordes and Fort Bend County Precinct 3 Commissioner Alton Pressley.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at The Club at Falcon Point, 24503 Falcon Point Drive, company officials said.
