TEXAS PTA OPPOSES ANY LEGISLATION WHICH ALLOWS THE CARRYING OF A CONCEALED FIREARM:

In a Legislative Update dated February 1995 put out by the Katy ISD Council of PTA's, under a heading of legislation that the Texas PTA is "strongly interested in" appear these statements:

"The right to carry "CONCEALED" weapons.

Texas PTA Legislative position statement, Health, Welfare and Safety, D. 95.:  Texas PTA opposes any legislation which would allow the carrying of a concealed firearm."

"School Vouchers

The Texas PTA Legislative position statement, School Finance, J94:  Texas PTA opposes any form of tuition tax credits or voucher system that would divert funds fro public schools to private schools."

These two issues are important. The right to bear arms is guaranteed in the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution.  The opposition of the PTA regarding this activity reveals a leftist bias that most parents in Katy ISD would not support. Also, a majority of parents support tuition tax credits and a voucher system as well.

The right to have a concealed firearm has since been passed into law by the State of Texas.

Parents need to pay attention to the Legislative Agenda of their State and Local PTA's as well as that of the National PTA.
