COMPUTER/VIRTUAL LEARNING:

I've been pointing out for years that the use of computers to teach students is a bad idea.  There's not a computer anywhere that can take the place of a well-educated and competent teacher.  However, the way it's going, it won't be long before Bill Gates gets his way and has a computer on every school desk. [Think of the money he'll make!] The teacher will become a permanent facilitator at the side of the room. Eventually there won't be any need for a teacher--the custodian can come in every morning and turn the things on and return in the afternoon to turn them off.

There will be monitors, but they won't be teachers, and all teaching will emanate from a computer.

Eventually down the road, school districts will spend billions more of our tax dollars when it becomes obvious that our students are uneducated, thanks to computers, Bill Gates and the Federal Government. Sort of like West Memorial Elementary where no walls were built to contain classrooms: there will have to be a major expensive retrofit to fix the problem!

Sad prospect isn't it?  And yet we now have a probable governor of the State of Texas who is about to fall into the vendor/lobbyist trap.  Please read Donna Garner's expose of the problem.

If you are concerned, send Greg Abbott a letter!
